CREDIBLE – Countering Misinformation to Establish Social and Political Credibility: Comparing Turkey and South Korea

The CREDIBLE project is a bilateral research initiative funded under the TÜBİTAK 2523 – NRF (National Research Foundation of Korea) Joint Cooperation Programme. Running from April 2023 to September 2025, the project brings together researchers from Turkey and South Korea to investigate how misinformation shapes social and political trust in two distinct democratic contexts. Drawing on experimental and survey-based methods, the project examines the psychological and political mechanisms through which misinformation erodes credibility in institutions, science, and political actors — and how these dynamics differ across cultural and political settings. A key component of the project explores the potential of virtual reality as an intervention tool to counter misinformation and restore public trust. The project contributes to a growing body of comparative political psychology research at the intersection of media, cognition, and democratic accountability.
